A local volunteer of highest distinction will be the featured guest at the May 9 meeting of the Lenker Manor Paxtang Women's Club.

The club's membership will be treated to the presence of John Bricker of Swatara Twp. Bricker holds the distinction of locally raising over $600,000 for the March of Dimes - an accomplishment he achieved at donations of $10, $20, and $100 at a time.

Bricker began his fundraising effort in 1975 following the death of his son, Greg, from a heart defect at the age of 3. On the day Greg died, Bricker pledged to honor his son by raising more money each year to support the March of Dimes’ mission - to promote healthy pregnancies and prevent birth defects and premature births.

The local club is a non-profit organization committed to promoting civic and social services to better the community. Monthly meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month. Each offers interesting programs, lively conversation, and a tasty brunch. They are held at the Paxton Presbyterian Church on Paxtang Ave. and are open to the public.

The group "provides woman-power for charitable events, and raises money to give to local community groups and charities."
